The Perks of Being a Wallflower As teens or young adults you are still trying to figure out who you are and what you have to offer the world. There is so much pressure around teen’s every day of their lives. They do not know what is the right or the wrong choice, but certain influences and relationships help determine the choices they make. They need guidance and someone they can talk to, like a non-parental adult. This is an adult who wants to make a difference in the life of teens, and is someone they can rely on for support. Non-parental adults can come from many different socially-defined contexts: Teachers, coaches, or extended family. Teachers give teens the knowledge and skills to succeed as adults by urging them to pursue their dreams, and by impressing on them the joy that comes from a lifetime of learning. Teachers can reinforce self- esteem, and increase motivation. They can be limitless in their capacity to touch lives. We would hope that they all want to make an impact and help their students better themselves, just like Bill did for Charlie. I need to add a paragraph about a characteristic that bill has and compare to coaches here. I have no idea. I think motivate is too close to encourage that I used for teacher. I know the next paragraph isn’t very detailed if u could put your spin on it that would be great! Bill was a friend to Charlie. He listened to Charlie and did not judge him. He treated him like an adult and Charlie felt like he could talk to Bill about things he could not talk to anyone else about. Sometimes that is all a teen needs is someone to lend an ear and listen to them. They can also find this relationship in an aunt or uncle. Most teens do not feel like they can talk to their parents. They may be afraid of getting in trouble or feel embarrassed when talking to their parents about certain topics. An aunt or uncle are a perfect example of a non-parental adult they could talk to.
