Long Range Planning

A plan is an organised way of doing something. An effective plan is one that has been arranged after careful consideration, for conducting a future activity. The term "planning" denotes organising how something should be done, especially how a company should be run to make profits.

Planning is the process of selecting realistically attainable business objectives and formulating the general policies and the specific directions needed to achieve these objectives.

They had many years of experience so their credibility would be high enough so that potential clients would still most likely continue to use them in the future should a downsizing have occurred.

Key Issues

The main issue I see is CMC's senior leadership and their lack of desire to embrace change. W.S. Lasch, general manager of CMC, flat out refuses to provide to general contractors prestressed concrete that CMC has manufactured that is based on specifications dictated by an outside party. Lasch identifies that if his business was to do this he would no longer potentially required facets of his organisation (sales / estimating). Lasch quotes: "We simply do not choose to be in business in this manner".

Lasch does not seem to find any merit in not working directly under an owner of a property. Lasch speaks of the negatives of working under a general contractor who works directly for the owner. Lasch quotes: "It could be argued with great justification that the conventional approach (i.e., precaster working for general contractor) could be compared to the tail wagging the dog".

Lasch goes on further by stating that basically the job satisfaction of his business is more important and adapting to the new environment in order to maintain a healthy profit margin: "With complete control of design, aesthetics, and construction schedule, it would be possible to achieve maximum efficiency of design, plant usage, and field
