Case Study Response - Question One While many walks of life and previous work related experience can be helpful, I believe my 23 years of military experience has prepared me very well to work in the field of emergency management. First off, I have a background of working in a controlled chaos environment for 6-10 months at a team while on deployments, and during work up cycles prior to deploying. I have learned to adapt to changing situations much more easily than most people coming right out of college or training programs. I think this is always one of the biggest advantages I would have over most people just getting into the beginning of a career in emergency management. This is not something that can be learned in a book or at school; it can only be learned with experience as well as trial and error in what works best for me. The second attribute would have to be accountability. Most things I have done over the previous 23 years have been scrutinized through inspections and even daily supervision while I was in the early stages of my career. I don’t not have a problem having to report to up line supervisors what me, or my time have accomplished during a given evolution. Additionally, I have
extensive experience in writing the type of reports that are read by high ranking officials regarding how we are accomplishing specified goals during our training cycles. This could easily be transferred into reports we have talked about during this class such as…
